Introduction

The Mediterranean water community has initiated an efficient synergy in view to consolidate the cooperation and exchange of knowhow and experience in the field of water by organizing the 1st Mediterranean Water Forum in Marrakesh (Morocco) in December 2011.

This 1st Mediterranean Water Forum coordinated by the Mediterranean Water Institute (IME) with the support of the State Secretariat in charge of Water and Environment in Morocco, could mobilize the Mediterranean water community for the participation at the 6th World Water Forum (Marseille, March 2012).

One of its recommendations issued was to continue this initiative and organized a second event.

Within this framework, the Region of Murcia in Spain (member of the Committee of the Regions – ARLEM) suggested to host the 2nd Mediterranean Water Forum (25-27 November 2014).

In coherence with all initiatives and programmes currently running and to be implemented in the Mediterranean region, the 2nd Mediterranean Water Forum is willing to be a new step for the dialogue between all the stakeholders concerned by water and environmental issues.

The 2nd Mediterranean Water Forum will have to take the current geopolitical situation in the Mediterranean region into consideration to become an important step for exchange and consolidation of knowhow and experiences in the field of water in the Mediterranean.

From the lessons learnt and recommendations of the 1st Mediterranean Water Forum, this second regional event will be articulated around the preparatory process for the 7th World Water Forum to be taking place from 12 to 17 April 2015 in Daegu, South Korea.

 

Content of the Forum

Based on the success of the participatory approach of the 1st Mediterranean Water Forum, several sessions could be organized such as:

  • Thematic sessions devoted to the Mediterranean area

  • Specific session related to the preparatory process of the Mediterranean region’s participation at the 7th World Water Forum

  • Side-Events organized by national / regional partners

  • Exhibition stand bringing together all water stakeholders (ministries, local authorities, professionals, ...) to introduce their knowhow and experience
